Falso exame: Auric\u00e9lia trabalhava na maternidade h\u00e1 dois anos, mas estava de folga no dia do ocorrido. Ela entrou em um banheiro para trocar de roupa e tentar ir embora sem levantar suspeitas. A tia da beb\u00ea desconfiou da movimenta\u00e7\u00e3o, seguiu a t\u00e9cnica at\u00e9 o banheiro e a interceptou. No entanto, a Pol\u00edcia Civil do Piau\u00ed descartou a tese de insanidade mental para afastar a culpa, afirmando que ela planejou a a\u00e7\u00e3o e agiu sozinha.  Durante as buscas na resid\u00eancia da t\u00e9cnica de enfermagem, a pol\u00edcia encontrou um quarto montado para receber uma crian\u00e7a, equipado com ber\u00e7o, banheira, roupas e fraldas. Familiares da suspeita acreditavam que ela estava gr\u00e1vida. Logo ap\u00f3s o crime e antes de ser detida, Auric\u00e9lia foi internada pela pr\u00f3pria fam\u00edlia no Hospital Areolino de Abreu (uma cl\u00ednica psiqui\u00e1trica).
